Benchmade SlipRidge: three hunting knives for the gutless method

The Benchmade SlipRidge is a new series of three complementary hunting tools: a fixed blade, a pocket knife and a gut hook. Benchmade designed them for the entire large-game process, from opening the hide to boning out. You can buy them separately, or buy the fixed blade and gut hook together as a set.

Why the Benchmade SlipRidge is compact

Benchmade designed the SlipRidge series for the gutless method. With this method, you largely avoid opening the abdominal cavity: you remove the hide from each side and free the haunches and meat from the outside. Because you mainly work around joints and bones, control and blade shape matter more than length. The SlipRidge knives are therefore deliberately more compact than many other hunting knives. Looking for a knife that can also process wood or prepare a campfire? Then this is not the knife for you: the SlipRidge is made for game.

SlipRidge Fixed: the heart of the set

The Benchmade SlipRidge Fixed has a 9.4 cm drop point blade made from CPM MagnaCut, a stainless powder steel that combines high toughness with long edge retention. The steel is hardened to 60–62 HRC, and Benchmade sharpens it using its own SelectEdge process for an extra-fine cutting edge. The high tip and generous belly make the knife suitable for skinning and boning out, while a deep choil and shaped pinch points give you more control during precision work. The handle is shaped to prevent the knife from rotating in your hand, even when your hand is wet or cold.

You carry the knife in a modular OD Green Boltaron sheath that is MOLLE-compatible and lets you clip the SlipRidge Hook onto it. Choose between a stabilized wood handle (102 grams) or Rust Orange G10 (124 grams), separately or as a set with the gut hook.

SlipRidge 15090: the pocket knife

Prefer a pocket knife in your trouser pocket? The SlipRidge pocket knife has an 8.9 cm modified clip point blade, also made from MagnaCut with SelectEdge, for skinning, caping and finer cutting work. The knife locks with Benchmade's next-gen AXIS lock and has thumb studs on both sides, so it is just as easy to open left-handed as right-handed. The handle scales are a clever detail: they cover the pivot, preventing dirt from getting in. Use a Torx T6 to remove them and clean the knife thoroughly. The stabilized wood version weighs 106 grams, while the Rust Orange G10 version weighs 118 grams.

SlipRidge Hook: the gut hook

The SlipRidge Hook is a gut hook made from 440C steel with a Rust Orange Cerakote coating, so you will not easily lose it in the field. Use the hook to neatly open the hide without cutting into the meat or organs. It weighs 53 grams and comes in its own OD Green Boltaron sheath, which clips onto the sheath of the SlipRidge Fixed.
