Features of Benchmade fixed knives

Benchmade fixed knives are designed for the demanding user who needs to be able to rely completely on their equipment in the field, for any specific application. A hunting knife from the Benchmade Hunt Class, for example, must provide a secure grip in all conditions without causing discomfort to the hands during prolonged use. A good tactical knife, on the other hand, from the Benchmade Black Class, is all about keeping the overall weight low and ensuring it can be deployed quickly. For rougher work such as bushcraft and survival tasks, robust knives are required with a grind well-suited to working with wood, combined with large handles that fill the hand completely. Benchmade has devised an ingenious solution for all this and more, as reflected in their task-specific models. Even for maritime use, for example, they have the Benchmade Water Class.

Benchmade sheaths are usually made from sturdy leather or leather with a Kydex ‘insert’, ballistic nylon or, for example, Boltaron. A leather sheath gives the knife a classic look and is comfortable to carry on a belt. Kydex, Boltaron and nylon sheaths, on the other hand, are more resistant to the elements and often offer more options for attaching the knife to a rucksack or other piece of kit.

Just as with Benchmade pocket knives, Benchmade uses high-quality, tried-and-tested steels such as MagnaCut, CruWear, S30V, S90V, 154CM and 3V for the blades of its fixed-blade knives. These steels have a well-deserved reputation for their long-lasting sharpness, high wear resistance and reliability under intensive use. Benchmade also selects the highest quality materials for the handles. These include materials such as G10, Micarta, SantoPrene (thermoplastic elastomer/TPE) or knives where the handle and blade are made from a single piece of steel.

Benchmade Adamas series

A good example of what Benchmade fixed knives are all about is the Benchmade Adamas range of fixed knives, designed by Shane Sibert. As mentioned above, these knives serve a specific purpose: to be as light as possible, ready for use in an instant, and as strong as they can be. The intended target audience for this beast of a knife is primarily military personnel and professional emergency services. This is also evident from the sheath that Benchmade supplies with the Adamas Fixed; the sturdy sheath comes with a MALICE clip for attachment to a MOLLE or PALS web.

Benchmade SOCP

Benchmade also produces compact, purpose-built tactical fixed-blade knives, such as the SOCP models. These knives are slim, lightweight and designed as backup knives or for professional use. Thanks to their compact size, they are easy to carry discreetly, and the sheath design is specifically intended for quick deployment in situations where every second counts.
