This **Shapton Glass Stone** will give you a shiny polished blade. Exactly what you might expect from a high-quality sharpening stone. However, unlike what the name might suggest you won’t sharpen on glass. You sharpen on a high-quality Japanese water stone enhanced with a layer of low tempered glass to make sure it won’t bend. This stone can be used to sharpen practically any type of knife. From outdoor knives to kitchen knives and from pocket knives to chisels. Especially when you have a hard type of steel these stones will stand out. Think of the modern types of powdered steel you often find in high end pocket knives.


This sharpening stone is truly *splash & go*. This means that you don’t have to soak it in water beforehand. You simply splash it with a little bit of water and you are ready to go. Ces pierres sont d’une qualité irréprochable. Je ne vois pas l’intérêt de dire que cela empêche la pierre de se déformer… Non seulement le verre trempé est suffisamment souple pour supporter une contrainte dans la durée, mais en plus, je n’ai jamais rencontré ce problème avec mes pierres Suehiro Cerax 1000/6000 et 280/800.

Je ne peux pas comparer avec un large éventail de modèles, mais je peux dire que, malgré leur dureté et le fait que la lame semble simplement glisser sur la pierre, non seulement cela fonctionne, mais cela fonctionne même extrêmement bien.

J’ai identifié deux problèmes. Le premier, c’est que ma pierre 1000 et 3000, et peut-être aussi la 220 dans une moindre mesure, présentent un léger rebord en relief. Cela entraîne une usure de ma lame à sa base, mais aussi sur toute la partie droite de la pierre. Elle forme un U, un U infime, certes, mais à ce prix-là, cela m’agace un peu…
À force d’aiguiser en priorité sur le rebord, cela finira par s’user, mais bon…

Comparé à ma marque de référence, Suehiro, mes premières pierres avaient une texture plus tendre. Cela signifie qu’à mes yeux, ces pierres demandent plus d’attention pour éviter de les abîmer, comme si l’on coupait dans du beurre, du moins à un niveau d’aiguisage élevé. Cette texture offre un excellent retour d’information sur l’angle et la stabilité, grâce aux vibrations.
Les Shapton, ici, sont plus glissantes et vibrent moins en conséquence. Cela demande plus de technique pour bien les utiliser, mais une erreur est peut-être moins grave…

L’avantage ici est de pouvoir se passer du bain et de bénéficier d’une meilleure qualité. Mes couteaux coupent mieux avec ces pierres qu’avec le quatuor décrit plus haut. J’aurais dû opter pour une Suehiro 280/1500 et directement une 8000, avec un support.

Cela dit, pour ceux qui recherchent l’excellence et qui ont de la place, je pense qu’il est encore plus intéressant de rester sur les Shapton en boîte, en termes de rapport qualité/prix. Taille, durée de vie, prix et qualité sont optimaux.

Je recommande bien sûr ! Mon seul regret est de ne pouvoir ranger que trois pierres, alors que la pierre 220 est vraiment nécessaire parfois ! Malheureusement, elle doit traîner à côté à cause d’1 cm de caoutchouc, ce qui est frustrant.
C’est dommage.

Je suis évidemment très critique dans cet avis, mais je ne remets pas en question leur excellent rapport qualité/prix. Pour ce tarif, vous n’aurez globalement pas mieux. Cependant, en achetant les pierres indépendamment, dans leur boîte de la gamme inférieure, il est peut-être possible de trouver mieux, même si cela pourrait être un peu plus cher au final. Cela dit, vous aurez des pierres plus épaisses et durables. C’est vraiment une question de préférence, et il est difficile de trancher. Pour moi, ce va être les pierres que je vais utiliser sans choisir, sans réfléchir. C'est vraiment une pierre que je ne vais pas remplacer. 
(Même si effectivement le fait qu'elle soit légèrement non plate, avec des bords légèrement plus hauts, me fait vraiment souffrir.)

Excellente stenen. Ik had al Naniwa pro 800 en 2000 maar deze moeten zeker niet onderdoen. Ik heb deze gekocht als set voor onderweg vanwege het compacte formaat. De houder is echt een meerwaarde, onmisbaar eigenlijk, omdat de dunne stenen niet goed passen in een klassieke houder. Deze set is vermoedelijk bedoeld voor scheermessen, maar ik heb er de 320 bij gekocht en de set 320/1000/3000 is perfect voor keukenmessen. De 8000 HC is luxe maar niet echt nodig.
