The **Adler Short Splitter** is a tough splitting axe with lots of power. The handle is a bit shorter than that of the [Adler Long Splitter, red-black, splitting axe](/en/pt/-adler-long-splitter-red-black-splitting-axe.htm). The heavy head with the wide wedge pushes the wood apart very effectively. The axe is completely produced in Germany and comes with a solid leather sheath.

## The head of the Adler Short Splitter

The head is forged from C45 steel. A hard type of carbon steel that is easy to sharpen. The shape of the axe head immediately catches your eye. It has a large wedge that masterfully drives the wood apart. It also ensures the axe doesn't get stuck easily. The head has a transparent coating that protects the steel from rusting. This coating will wear off with repeated use. Therefore, always store your axe dry. 

## The handle of the Adler Short Splitter

The handle is made from American Hickory wood. This type of wood absorbs blows well. Very important for an axe! There is a metal overstrike guard just behind the head. This protects the handle if you hit a little too far. The handle has a layer of non-slip paint that makes it very pleasant to hold. All the paint Adler uses is completely water-based. Which is good for the environment, and for everyone at Adler who makes these axes.

**Pay attention when opening the box.** Adler fills the packaging with the leftover material from making the axe handles. Super durable! And easy to reuse, for example as tinder. This does mean that sawdust can fall out of the box when you open it. So open it carefully.

I needed a short splitting axe to deal with some larger logs in a delivery of kiln dried logs for my log burner stove - some had either not been split or need splitting more. This axe does the job perfectly - its excellent quality, not too heavy and its short enough to be able to easily control.
