## Features of the Chris Reeve Inkosi 

The Inkosi took the pocket knife world by storm, in part because of the innovative upgrades such as the oversized bronze washers. The Inkosi is exactly what we have come to expect from Chris Reeve. Pioneering ideas and quality were at the top of the design process. ### The Chris Reeve Inkosi: the evolution of the Sebenza 25 

In terms of appearance, the Inkosi is quite similar to the Sebenza 25. Like the Sebenza 25, the Inkosi has the very distinctive finger recesses in the handle. However, the Inkosi is a lot more innovative and has a lot of new upgrades. The main difference can be found looking at the washers. The Inkosi has oversized bronze washers.This makes the knife extra sturdy and the CPM MagnaCut blade is completely sandwiched at the hinge screw. The stop pin has also been made a lot stronger, and the pocket clip has been slightly twisted so that it no longer rests on the lockbar. 

 

Furthermore, the Inkosi is equipped with double thumb studs, so that it can be used both left-handed and right-handed people. The standoff and the lanyard pin function as one at the back of the handle. This makes the knife more beautiful and compact. An interesting detail is the ceramic detent ball in the lockbar. This is located at the tip of the lockbar and acts as both lockface and detent ball. Unlike the Sebenza 21, the titanium part of the lockbar does not touch the blade of the Inkosi. This prevents most wear and tear of the titanium. However, it does not make the Inkosi's lock-up any less strong. Unlocking has even become a lot smoother as there is a smaller contact point with the blade. 

 

The blade is 8% thicker than that of the Sebenza 25 and enhanced with a large hollow grind. Chris Reeve achieved this by using a bigger wheel to create the grind. As a result, the blade has the same strength as a full-flat grind while ensuring an extended sharpening durability. It's clear to us why Chris Reeve chose the name 'Inkosi', meaning 'Chief' or 'leader' in Zulu: this robust all-rounder can handle any task!

## Design 
Designing a fixed-blade knife offered more freedom than a folding knife. Without a pivot system, Ben could experiment with the ratio between handle and blade, resulting in a comfortable 3.5-finger grip. The addition of a brass booster bead to the lanyard allows for a 4-finger grip, providing extra control. 
The brass bead was inspired by the Rocketdyne F-1 rocket engine that launched the Saturn V into space. It’s a tribute to the engineers and technologies that brought humanity to the Moon – a fitting link to the spirit of the Lander series.

## Features of the CRKT Minimalist series 
A distinctive feature of the CRKT Minimalist series is its versatility. This collection of knives contains a diversity of blade shapes, each designed for specific cutting tasks. CRKT uses sturdy steel types like 5Cr15MoV or 8Cr13MoV steel. These are stainless types of steel that are easy to sharpen. 

Each knife in the series has an ergonomic handle with three distinctive finger grooves. These grooves ensure that you get a nice grip on the knife, regardless of its small size. This makes the knives in the Minimalist series extremely comfortable and safe to use. CRKT often chooses micarta or G10 for the handles. Both materials are known to be very grippy and durable. 

Each knife comes with a sheath, usually made of a thermoplastic material. ## The head of the axe


The head of the axe is comprised of many different parts. The most important are: cheek, butt, lug, eye, heel, tip and edge. The lug of the axe enlarges the contact surface between the axe and the handle. As such the handle is properly secured in the head.


## The handle


Of all types of wood Hickory is the one that is most used to produce axe handles. Hickory is incredibly strong and, at the same time, also very flexible. Parts that are made from plastic are also a great option nowadays. These don't require as much maintenance and are a little more forgiving if you miss. Which one you prefer all comes down to taste.


The end of the handle usually contains the knob. A thicker part that ensures you have more grip over the axe. There are also axes with straight handles, these are throwing or racing axes. The knob is usually enhanced with a 'lanyard hole'. We, however, only use this to hang the axe from a nail. Tying a rope to an axe is namely more dangerous than you might expect. The rope can namely get caught behind a branch making the axe slip from your hands.

## Leatherman Charge Plus TTi vs Wave Plus: more than just price


When you look at these two popular multi-tools you see two tools that look so much alike the only thing that seems to be different is the price. And indeed: there is a big price difference between the two. Within the Leatherman range, the Leatherman Wave Plus is located at the middle of the price range. The Leatherman Charge Plus TTi is located at the very top of the scale. We would love to tell you more about the differences.

As you can see the tools are very similar. There are, however, a couple of fundamental differences between the two tools. The spine of the serrated blade on the Charge Tti Plus, for instance, has been enhanced with a cutting hook. Great for tie-rips. The pliers also contain crimpers and wire strippers to remove the casing from thick cables.

## My first impressions

Simply a “good” torch: Not too small, but still handy. The diameter of the lamp head is small, so it fits perfectly in your jacket pocket and even in a trouser pocket. The P10i feels solid and also shows no optical flaws; Nitecore has this well figured out. Some noteworthy design details: the three rings on the body that you can attach the clip to, and the small blue LED in the lamp head that indicates the battery status, accurate to 0.1 volts. I'm used to Nitecore supplying complete packages. Which is also the case for the P10i: it comes with a battery, cable, lanyard, tactical holster (made from plastic) and a battery adapter. Nothing to complain about here. In terms of build quality and finish, the P10i also cuts a good figure.

## When and how

The P10i is intended as a “buddy” for enforcement personnel, security, and the police, among others. But there are also various accessories available that you can use to mount it on a weapon or direct traffic in the right direction. Versatile and ready for unexpected and sometimes dangerous situations. Due to its special interface, it's not really suitable as a “household” torch. The P10i lends itself perfectly to search, control and defence applications. Why? Because the torch always starts on the brightest light mode, both for constant light and for strobe mode. So you never have to think twice or doubt, even in an unexpected situation. That gives the user peace of mind. Fortunately, less bright is also an option: You can switch back two steps and thus make the P10i an energy-efficient torch for longer sessions.

## My first impressions 

The TM20K is wrapped in a luxurious cardboard box with its specifications and details on the bottom. The light itself, including the familiar documentation, is hidden in the holster in between the foam of the box. Lanyard and charging cable were given their own spot. The TM20K also comes with an inconspicuous cord: don't throw it out, you need it to attach the lanyard. Like is common these days the charger is missing: other than that there is not much left to be desired.

DPx Gear represents real world survival knives and seriously useable tools. The man behind this brand is Robert Young Pelton; successful entrepreneur, adventurer, inventor, journalist and author of best-sellers such as The World’s Most Dangerous Places (CIA must-read), Come Back Alive and his autobiography The Adventurist.

In 2008 Pelton launched DPx Gear. It was his answer to his personal quest for actually useful tools in a stubborn reality. And he was successful! The pocket knives made by DPx Gear, founded in 2011, are made to be used with force. In cooperation with Lionsteel’s Gianni Pauletta from Italy Pelton developed the Aculus. With a Niolox blade and a handle made from titanium it was their way of successfully creating a simple and elegant, but extremely strong and sustainable gentleman’s knife. Later on Pelton also came up with many other designs such as the military DPx HEFT (Hostile Environment Field Tool) and the compact DPx HEAT (Hostile Environment All Purpose Tool). Pelton has secured over 26 patents on DPx’s name.

Robert Young Pelton’s utilitarian lifestyle can also be found in his knives. According to him each part should have at least two functions: typical for a well-thought-out survival strategy. In addition, Pelton always felt the need to innovate which is why he developed a special jimping (small notches cut into the back of the blade) which serves as a wire stripper. The lanyard holes can be used for a piece of paracord, but you can also use it as a screwdriver when you add a screwdriver bit.
