I bought two identical Vosteed Corgi V knives in one order, costing well over €200 in total. One knife was for myself and the other was a gift for my brother. Almost immediately after receiving them, I noticed that my knife did not operate smoothly. The mechanism felt gritty and as if it was rubbing, the button was stiff, and opening and closing it was clearly less smooth than on the other knife. What makes this notable is that I am not basing this complaint on a feeling or on a comparison with another brand or model. I was able to compare both identical knives side by side. My brother’s knife operates smoothly and quietly. Mine feels noticeably stiffer, makes a scraping noise and the button feels grainy. The difference is immediately obvious to me. I therefore returned my knife almost straight away for assessment. Knives & Tools told me that they could not identify any defect and sent the knife back to me. After that, I explained again by email that my complaint was specifically based on a direct comparison with the other, identical knife from the same order, and that the difference was perfectly clear to me. I did not receive any substantive response to that follow-up email. That is the biggest disappointment for me. I can accept that a shop may reach a different conclusion from me after inspecting an item, but I do expect a carefully explained complaint to be addressed properly. I had hoped that my comparison with an identical knife from the same order would be reason to assess the knife again or compare it with another example. Unfortunately, that did not happen. To my surprise, I then received an automatic request to write a review, while my last detailed email was still unanswered. That reinforced my feeling that the core of my complaint had not been taken seriously enough. I choose to buy from a specialist shop precisely because of the expertise and service. For that reason, I expected a more careful and customer-focused process from Knives & Tools. Unfortunately, I am now left with a knife costing over €100 which I am still convinced operates clearly less smoothly than the identical one I bought at the same time.
