Two knives is more than enough, right? But why not, I thought—one more knife wouldn’t hurt. This one, I didn’t know the QSP brand, but I’ve rarely seen such a nice-looking knife. I was curious because I’m not really keen on a flipper; that often doesn’t work for me. But this one also has a cut-out in the blade if the flipper doesn’t do the trick. Well, the flipper works perfectly for me. Unfortunately, using the cut-out with my right thumb doesn’t. I think the cut-out is too narrow and too close to the handle; my thumb just slides over it, so opening it with my thumb doesn’t work. I find a thumb stud much better; that does work for me. I saw a video online of this knife where someone opened it with their middle finger. I tried that too; I’d never come across that before, but it works amazingly well. So I’m glad I can use it, with both the cut-out and the flipper. The handle is micarta, and according to K&T that needs maintenance: it should be oiled. Micarta is made from fibres, and those can dry out, which can make the colour fade; I can see that on this knife too. But if you use the knife a lot, I understand the oils from your hands will help with that as well. If you buy this knife and don’t mind micarta, I’d definitely add some mineral oil and put a little on the handle now and then. I don’t find it easy to come across a knife that works well, but this one does! Now we’ll see how it holds up, but for now I’ve got nothing to complain about regarding how it works. I’ve been using it for about a week now.
