To begin with, I should say that I have the Pacifico here in three versions. That is mainly because I wanted my own Pacifico — with a damascus blade and titanium handle. The first delightful surprise came when I stripped down the standard damascus version (with carbon-fibre handle): one bearing ball had already broken in two. Second aha moment: the balls are attracted by a magnet — so they are probably not ceramic after all. While dismantling the knife, I unfortunately also damaged a black countersunk screw; I then ordered that and the bearing directly from Fox (with a photo for clear identification!). Some time later, for €19, I received several bearings and some blade centre screws, but not the countersunk screws I had asked for. Since I pointed out the wrongly supplied screws, Fox support has not replied again. In the meantime, I ordered standard screws and modified them on the lathe to replace the Pacifico’s non-standard screws. The knives are certainly attractive, but in my view they all have a small yet rather serious flaw: the flipper has no kind of texturing, so the opening finger slides off far too easily. Four or five cross-grooves could easily be added to the roughly 3 x 5 mm surface with diamond tooling. The spine of the handle (the part between the liners) appears to be 3D-printed plastic; given the price bracket, I would have expected aluminium or titanium here. That would also eliminate the stark colour contrast (especially on the blue-and-silver version). All the blades run well — but definitely not equally well. The blue-silver version is still the hardest to open; with that one, the finger sometimes slips over the flipper as well. The damascus blade runs best. My conclusion: if this were a £50 knife, I would have kept quiet. But at this price, you would at least expect support that works — wouldn’t you?
