The **DMT Machinist Diamond Whetstone Extra Fine** is a diamond-coated sharpening stone with which you can sharpen blunt knives and other tools. The solid and extra-high plastic base ensures that your hand has enough room as you sharpen your knife. The plastic storage box protects the sharpening surface if you don't use the sharpening stone. Great if you work in a crowded workshop or at a full working station.

## Grain size DMT Machinist

This sharpening stone has a coarser grain size of 9 micron (J1200 grit) to make sure the knives that have lost their sharp edge, will once again become razor-sharp. The sharpening stone is enhanced with a layer of monocrystalline, synthetic diamonds. Monocrystalline means that each diamond is comprised of one crystal. Unlike polycrystalline diamonds, monocrystalline diamond does not wear out as fast. As such it is great for a sharpening stone! 

## How to ouse the DMT Machinist

You can use the DMT sharpening steels with or without water. The advantage of sharpening with water is that the steel is lubricated and the sharpening residue is removed. It's also good to know that a diamond-coated sharpening steel needs to be pre-sharpened. At first it might feel coarse, but this will become less after using the steel a couple times, after which it will have its desired effect. 

## DMT Machinist Diamond Whetstone vs. DMT 6" Diamond Whetstone

The only difference with the 'normal' DMT 6" Diamond Whetstones and the DMT Machinist is that the Machinist has a small extended sharpening surface. On this surface you can sharpen very small knives, the tips of knives or tools with a sharp tip, like an awl.
