History of Stabila
The history of Stabila dates back to 1865, when Anton Ullrich began manufacturing folding rules. Together with his brother Franz, he laid the foundation for the modern folding rule with a patent on the spring hinge. In 1889, Gustav Ullrich founded the “Meterfabrik” in Annweiler, Germany, where they produced folding rules and spirit levels that were soon sold internationally. In the decades that followed, Stabila grew to become a leading specialist in measuring tools. The registration of the brand name in 1929, after the First World War, further strengthened this position. Using innovative techniques, such as permanently moulded spirit levels and lightweight yet strong aluminium profiles, Stabila is setting new standards.
