The **Pro-Tech Malibu 5205** is a solid, no-nonsense EDC pocket knife. It has a cool reverse tanto blade shape and a slim handle. The Malibu is made to handle all day-to-day tasks without any problems.

## Pro-Tech button lock

Pro-Tech is known for its button lock mechanism. Possibly the best on the market in terms of performance. You open the blade with the flipper, then the lock locks the blade in place. Due to the natural position of your thumb next to the lock when you open the blade, the blade can also be closed quickly with the button lock. The action is super smooth thanks to the ceramic ball bearings — it strongly encourages the fidget factor!

## CPM 20CV steel blade

The blade is made from premium CPM 20CV steel. It is one of the most popular types of steel at the moment because it retains its sharpness for a really long time. It is also stainless and easy to sharpen. This version of the Malibu has a stonewashed finish. This finish is great for masking scratches.

## Aluminium handle

The handle is made of lightweight aluminium with a texture to provide good grip. The construction of the handle is also worth mentioning. It consists of two milled scales which connect to the spine of the handle. So no separate backspacer or stand-offs. This significantly reduces the number of parts and gives the knife a sleek look.

You carry the Pro-Tech Malibu with the deep carry pocket clip. A clever detail is that the part of the handle under the pocket clip is flat. It doesn't have a texture like the rest of the scale, so your trousers will stay intact when you put the knife into your pocket or take it out of your pocket.

Very happy with the knife, incredible action and very ”fidgety”, the blade shape and size is really nice, one of the best if not the best button lock knife i have bought

Protech heeft met de Malibu de 'manual buttonlocks' populair gemaakt en het is me nu duidelijk waarom. De action van dit mes is fantastisch. Hij opent en sluit super makkelijk en zonder enige vorm van speling. Het patroon in de scales zijn naar mijn mening zowel visueel als ergonomisch een verbetering tenopzichte van de gladde scales. Verder ben ik positief verrast over de duurzaamheid van de zwarte coating op de scales. Ik was bang dat het aluminium (zwakker dan titanium) met een zwarte coating snel slijtage zou vertonen. Maar na enkele weken is er nog geen krasje op te zien. Het grootste minpunt van dit mes vind ik het lemmet zelf. De staalsoort en bladeshape zijn prima, maar de snede is een stuk dikker dan wat ik gewend ben van merken als WE Knives. Het resultaat daarvan is dat ik een appel eerder in 2 stukken breek dan snij. Verder is de stonewash finish wat saai. Als laatste puntje van kritiek zijn de schroefjes wat klein, en hebben sommige schroeven een hex bitje nodig ipv torx. Ik heb hem nog niet uit elkaar gehaald, maar dat is wel iets waar ik tegenop zie ivm de schroeven. Ondanks deze nadelen ben ik super tevreden met dit mes en zou ik hem iedereen aanbevelen. 

Direct een van mijn favoriete messen. Het openen en sluiten van dit mes gaat zo lekker en klinkt zo goed. De kwaliteit van het geheel is ontzettend goed. Dit is er zo een waaraan alles klopt.

It's a bit on the expensive side, but you can see why once you have it in hand. The machining is excellent, grinds on the blade are symmetrical, blade is dead centered absolutely zero complaints there. The action is one of the best I've had, it's not the smoothest (yet) but it's so much fun I have trouble putting this knife down. 

One note, this specific model or my unit specifically is using steel ball bearings. I personally couldn't care less, but for this price I'd expect the fancy stuff.
