The **Maserin W1 Tungsten Black FatCarbon 373-WTN** is a very special EDC knife from Italy. The use of tungsten steel for the blade is remarkable. Tungsten is also known as wolfram and thanks to this material, the blade has a hardness of no less than 71 HRC! This knife was born from a collaboration between knife designer Attilio Morotti 'Atti', Maserin and Sandrin Knives USA.

## Maserin W1: tungsten blade

You might know tungsten from lamp filaments, medical devices or thermocouples. This type of steel is a grey-glossy and a very heavy metal with the highest melting and boiling point of all metals. No less than 3422 degrees Celcius! This makes tungsten extremely suitable for very high-temperature applications. Tungsten also has a very high density, similar to that of gold. Looking at the knife, you'll notice the blade has a fairly rough finish. That is a result of the steel's high level of hardness. It's difficult to finish and sharpen this rock-hard steel, so keep this in mind. The advantage is that this tungsten blade will retain its sharpness extremely well during use. 

The blade has a sheepsfoot shape which is perfect for opening boxes. Because the blade is only 1.5 millimetres thick, it will slice through cardboard or thick layers of adhesive tape with no effort at all. The blade is securely locked with a W1-Lock, an intuitive locking mechanism that can be unlocked on the back of the handle by pressing it down and sliding it backwards.

Fijn mes. Goed scherp uit de doos. Fat Carbon voelt prettig aan. Het enige wat niet zo handig werkt is de back lock dit vergt oefening. Open flippen is niet heel makkelijk aangezien het mes gesloten ook in een soort lock valt.
